Iain is a versatile pianist, accompanist, arranger and composer working in Birmingham, UK. His studies include a BMus from Birmingham University, composition studies at The Royal Academy of Music and latterly a PostGraduate Certificate in accompaniment from Birmingham Conservatoire. Iain has also gained a PGCE from U.C.E. (now B.C.U.) and has Qualified Teacher Status.
Iain now works as a pianist and accompanist of many guises in and around the Midlands and UK. He is one half of the duo Orichalcum-World of Brass, performing variety music shows in mainly rural locations up and down the country. He works as an accompanist at Birmingham School of Acting and is a regular pianist with The Nick Ross Orchestra. Other groups and organisations Iain has worked for recently include Birmingham Royal Ballet, Elmhurst School for Dance, City of Birmingham Children’s Chorus and Youth Chorus, Birmingham City Council Choir (as featured on ‘The Choir’), Phoenix Singers, and many others.
Iain enjoys accompanying and working with soloists and is always keen to develop new contacts and collaborations. As a self-taught jazz pianist Iain worked for a number of years onboard cruise ships including for P&O, Sun Cruises and Carnival Cruise Lines. As a solo pianist Iain is very interested in early jazz idioms such as Ragtime and Boogie-Woogie, and has recently been composing his own works in these genres.
